Russian attack kills four in Kyiv region, targets energy sites

Russian missiles and drones struck Kyiv and the surrounding region overnight into Wednesday, killing four people, including a child, and damaging energy infrastructure, Ukrainian officials said. The attack disrupted electricity supplies as Ukraine prepares for winter, although the exact national death toll and the extent of damage to specific facilities remain unclear. Kyiv authorities reported three deaths in the capital. In Vyshhorod, in the wider Kyiv region, a boy was killed when a private home was hit, regional military administration head Tymur Tkachenko said. Three other people were rescued from the rubble, according to his account. Officials also reported damage to homes, businesses, warehouses and vehicles, and injuries in Kyiv. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said energy facilities in Kyiv and the surrounding region were among the main targets. Russia’s Defence Ministry also said its forces struck power infrastructure there. The ministry identified a hydroelectric plant, a thermal power plant, an electrical substation, an energy-storage facility and a data center as targets; Ukrainian officials did not specifically confirm those facility-level claims.
