Rohit Keeps Century Celebration’s Meaning Private

Published 1 October 2026

Rohit Sharma kept the meaning of his century celebration private after India chased West Indies’ target of 406 to win the second one-day international in Guwahati by eight wickets. The opener said the gesture was personal and not something he intended to explain publicly. Rohit reached three figures with a single, then marked the milestone with a brief hopping jog. Asked about it after the match, he said he kept the celebration for himself. Teammate Ravindra Jadeja had asked what it meant during the innings, Rohit said, and he told him he would explain in the dressing room. Rohit also recounted Jadeja’s suggestion that he slide and jump to celebrate. He declined, saying he had already spent a long time fielding and batting. The exchange offered some context for the celebration, but Rohit did not disclose its personal meaning. The chase was built around an opening partnership between Rohit and Shubman Gill. Rohit said India concentrated on playing each delivery on its merits and continuing the partnership rather than focusing on the target. He praised Gill’s control and his ability to remain at the crease until the finish.
