Rockstar Says GTA 6 Tools Could Speed Future Games
Rockstar Games executives say the technology and development experience built for Grand Theft Auto 6 should help the studio make future projects more quickly, though they have not identified a next game or offered a release timetable. Phil Hooker, a development lead on GTA 6, said the game’s engine, tools and team would give Rockstar a foundation to build on rather than start over. He said he was confident the studio could work faster and create more content by extending those capabilities. Rockstar North co-head Aaron Garbut said the team had made fundamental changes during the project but did not intend to dismantle that work. The comments set an expectation, not a promise that the next release will arrive within a specific period. Rockstar has not announced what it is making next. Its scheduled release of GTA 6 is November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game’s development has spanned more than eight years, and Rockstar’s leaders have described the production as an effort to build and refine complex systems for a large open world.
