Toddler killed as building collapses in Delhi’s Seemapuri
A building collapsed in New Seemapuri, northeast Delhi, on October 7, killing a toddler and injuring at least eight people, officials said. Eight injured people, including a three-year-old child, were rescued and taken to hospital as emergency teams continued searching the debris for anyone still trapped. The final number of people affected was not known while the operation was under way. The collapse occurred during the afternoon. The Delhi Fire Services, police, the National Disaster Response Force, municipal officials and other response personnel took part in the search and rescue operation. Officials reported that crews were clearing the rubble and trying to locate people who might remain inside. Early accounts gave varying estimates of how many people had been rescued or might be trapped, and authorities had not issued a final tally. Police described the structure as four storeys, while the Municipal Corporation of Delhi described it as three storeys. Other early accounts gave a different storey count, and the available information did not resolve the discrepancy.
