Reporter, Pilot Killed in Los Angeles News Helicopter Crash

Published 16 September 2026

Veteran aerial reporter Eliana Moreno and pilot George Marciniw were killed when their news helicopter crashed in the Chatsworth neighborhood of Los Angeles on September 15, while covering a separate fatal traffic collision. A third person on the ground also died in the crash, and two others were injured. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported the crash occurred just before 7 p.m. at 9151 N. Mason Avenue, where the helicopter came down between two commercial buildings. The impact ignited a fire that damaged four vehicles and two storage containers. The aircraft was NewsChopper4, operated by Angel City Air for NBC4 Los Angeles and its Spanish-language sister station, Telemundo 52. Moreno, 38, and Marciniw, 70, were both employees of Angel City Air. They had been flying together since 2023, providing aerial coverage of breaking news, police pursuits, and wildfires across Southern California. At the time of the crash, they were reporting on a collision between a Metro bus and an SUV that had killed two people and injured several others near the same intersection.
