Redesigned MacBook Pro Reportedly Set to Be Much Lighter
Apple has reengineered the interior of its forthcoming MacBook Pro models to make them significantly lighter, according to Mark Gurman, who reported the change in his Power On newsletter. The redesigned laptops are also expected to add OLED displays and touchscreen support, but Apple has not announced the specifications or confirmed a release date. Gurman said components have been miniaturized and rearranged to make the computers easier to carry. He did not provide a target weight or specify how much lighter each model would be. Current 16-inch MacBook Pro models weigh about 4.7 to 4.8 pounds, while the 15-inch MacBook Air weighs about 3.3 pounds, according to the reports. The redesigned MacBook Pros are expected to be the first models in the line with OLED screens and touch support. The reports describe touch as an addition to, rather than a replacement for, the keyboard and trackpad. Apple has not confirmed those features, and the specific capabilities of the display remain unannounced. The OLED versions are expected to sit above existing MacBook Pro models in Apple’s lineup and carry higher prices.
