Phil Collins says he and Paul McCartney have made peace

Published 4 October 2026

Phil Collins says he and Paul McCartney have reconciled after Collins apologized for publicly discussing a remark that he had long viewed as patronizing. Collins described the renewed contact in an interview with Piers Morgan, saying McCartney called after Collins sought memorabilia donations for a King’s Trust charity auction. Collins said McCartney brought up their estrangement during the call. Collins told him he wished he had never spoken publicly about the dispute, and said the two had “kissed and made up.” Collins also said McCartney agreed to donate memorabilia to the auction. The account of the call and reconciliation comes from Collins’s interview; McCartney has not provided a separate account in the material available. The dispute dates to a 2002 event at Buckingham Palace, where Collins asked McCartney to sign a first edition of a book about The Beatles. Collins has said McCartney referred to him as “our little Phil” while speaking to his then-wife, Heather Mills. Collins said he felt patronized at the time, but later acknowledged he may have overreacted to the remark. Collins wrote about the episode in his 2016 memoir and later spoke publicly about it.
