PDP Engages INEC Over Omitted 2027 Candidates
The Peoples Democratic Party says it is engaging Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission to resolve the omission of its governorship candidates from final lists for the 2027 elections in Ogun and Gombe states. The commission’s list, published on Saturday, October 10, did not include PDP candidates Ladi Adebutu in Ogun or Isa Ali Pantami in Gombe. The list included 13 candidates in Ogun and 16 in Gombe, according to one report. In a statement issued on Sunday, party spokesperson Jungudo Haruna Mohammed said the PDP was seeking a resolution with INEC in accordance with the law and electoral guidelines. He urged affected candidates, party members and supporters to remain calm while discussions continue. The party said it would provide further updates as appropriate. The Gombe chapter of the PDP separately said it had not received formal communication from INEC confirming Pantami’s exclusion, although his name was absent from the published list. State party spokesperson Abdulkadir Dukku said the omission was concerning because INEC officials had monitored the party’s repeat primary on September 29, which Pantami won.
