Pant breaks Dhoni's away Test runs record for Indian wicketkeepers
Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant surpassed MS Dhoni's record for most Test runs scored by an Indian wicketkeeper away from home during a resilient innings of 63 on the second day of the second Test against Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo on August 24, 2026. Pant reached the milestone in the opening session of the day's play, needing just 26 runs to move past Dhoni's previous benchmark of 2,496 runs. He brought up the record in style by hitting back-to-back fours off spinner Keshara Nuwantha in the 97th over of India's innings. His innings pushed his tally to 2,501 runs at an average of 41.68 in Tests at away and neutral venues.
