Jaiswal, Fernando fined 25% for head-butting incident in Colombo Test

India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lanka fast bowler Asitha Fernando were each fined 25 per cent of their match fee and handed one demerit point by the International Cricket Council on Monday, August 24, 2026, following an on-field head-butting incident on the opening day of the second Test in Colombo. The altercation occurred on Sunday, August 23, during the morning session's 17th over of India's first innings. Fernando dismissed Jaiswal with an inswinger, after which the bowler delivered an animated sendoff. Jaiswal, on his way back to the pavilion, stopped and confronted Fernando. The two players exchanged words and leaned towards each other, resulting in their heads making contact.
