Pakistan names Farhan and Shaheen as captains
The Pakistan Cricket Board has named Sahibzada Farhan captain of the men’s T20I team and Shaheen Shah Afridi captain of the ODI side for upcoming matches against Sri Lanka and an England-Sri Lanka-Pakistan tri-series. Neither squad announcement named a vice-captain, and the PCB has not confirmed whether either team will have a designated deputy. The board announced the squads on October 5. Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka is scheduled to begin on October 9, with further matches on October 11 and 13. The ODI tri-series, featuring England and Sri Lanka, is scheduled to follow. The reports provided do not establish that either competition has begun. Farhan, an opening batter, captained Pakistan at the 2026 Asian Games. Pakistan reached the men’s cricket final but lost to India by 19 runs, taking the silver medal. The appointment gives Farhan leadership of the T20I squad for the Sri Lanka series; the ODI captaincy has been assigned to Shaheen Shah Afridi.
