Buttler reaches 10,000-run milestone in England defeat

Jos Buttler became the first English cricketer to score more than 10,000 runs across one-day internationals and Twenty20 internationals, reaching the milestone during England’s second ODI against Sri Lanka in Leeds. He made 69 from 49 balls before retiring hurt with an injury, as England lost by 16 runs and the three-match series was levelled at one win apiece. Buttler’s combined ODI and T20I tally stood at 10,062 runs from 367 matches and 326 innings, at an average of 37.12. The record includes 13 centuries and 60 half-centuries, with a highest score of 162. His 69-run innings featured five fours and five sixes. The milestone came in England’s chase of Sri Lanka’s 322 for six. England’s openers, Tom Banton and Ben Duckett, put on 143 runs; Banton scored 73 and Duckett made 67. After England lost three wickets for 14 runs, Buttler helped rebuild the innings, including a 46-run stand with Joe Root. Will Jacks added 52, but England finished on 305 for nine in its 50 overs. Sri Lanka’s total was built around Kusal Mendis’s 121 from 100 balls and Kamindu Mendis’s 54 from 65. The pair shared a 137-run stand for the second wicket.
