Padres beat Brewers 4-3 to force Game 4

Published 7 October 2026

The San Diego Padres beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in Game 3 of the National League Division Series on Tuesday, October 6, cutting Milwaukee’s lead in the best-of-five series to 2-1 and forcing a fourth game. The Brewers can still advance to the National League Championship Series with a win in Game 4, scheduled for Wednesday at Petco Park. Milwaukee collected 11 hits to San Diego’s six but stranded 11 runners, according to game accounts. The teams traded leads in a close contest: William Contreras hit a solo home run for the Brewers, while Jake Cronenworth answered with a solo homer for the Padres. San Diego added a run in the sixth after a Milwaukee throwing error, and the Brewers scored again in the eighth to make it 4-3. San Diego turned to Michael King to finish the game. The starter, who had pitched in Game 2, worked the final two innings in relief. Milwaukee put runners on first and second with one out in the ninth, but King retired the next batters to preserve the victory. The Padres’ win prevented a sweep and kept their season alive. The result continued a run of one-run games in the series, with the home team winning each of the first three.
