Chourio’s walk-off single gives Brewers 2-0 NLDS lead
Milwaukee rallied past San Diego 4-3 in Game 2 of the National League Division Series on Sunday, October 4, as Jackson Chourio’s two-out, ninth-inning single scored two runs and gave the Brewers a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series. Chourio hit the decisive single with the bases loaded against Padres reliever Mason Miller, sending Christian Yelich home with the tying run and Sal Frelick across with the winner. Milwaukee was trailing 3-2 when Miller entered the ninth. After a leadoff groundout, he walked Yelich and Frelick. Andrew Vaughn then flied out, and Gary Sánchez walked on a full count to load the bases for Chourio. The 22-year-old lined a fastball up the middle and into center field. Yelich scored, and Frelick slid home ahead of the throw, completing Milwaukee’s comeback. Chourio had also contributed to the Brewers’ offense in Game 1, when he hit a tying two-run homer, according to the game account. San Diego had taken a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Ty France single that scored Manny Machado. The Padres added another run in the fifth and went ahead 3-1 in the seventh.
