NPA denies warrants for Jacinta and Xolani Zuma

Published 15 October 2026

The National Prosecuting Authority says no arrest warrants have been issued for March and March leader Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma or her husband, Xolani Zuma, disputing the movement’s claim that the couple could be arrested by October 16. KwaZulu-Natal police also say they have no record of a case registered against them. The NPA’s denial followed a statement by March and March spokesperson Sandile Dube on October 14 asserting that warrants had been issued. Dube said the couple could be arrested by October 16 and alleged the action was politically motivated. The movement linked the claim to its protests and accused the Presidency of seeking to intimidate civil society ahead of the November 4 local government election. The NPA did not confirm the movement’s account. Spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said no warrant had been issued for either person and that the authority’s prosecutorial decisions are independent of political parties, public office holders and other outside instructions. He said decisions are guided by the Constitution, legislation and evidence. KwaZulu-Natal police said they had no trace of a case registered against the couple and that no warrant had been issued.
