Chicago police investigate assault report at fraternity party
Chicago police are investigating a 21-year-old woman’s report that she was sexually assaulted during a fraternity party near the University of Chicago early Sunday. Police said Wednesday that no one had been charged. The woman and the person of interest are not affiliated with the university, officials said. The party took place at the Alpha Epsilon Pi Lambda Chapter house. The university said Tuesday it had identified a person of interest and barred that person from campus. It has not named the individual, saying it would do so only if charges are filed. Mia Lara, a friend of the woman, told an interviewer that she searched the house after losing track of her friend and found her slumped on the floor of a locked bathroom, with her clothing pulled down. Lara said a man was holding her friend’s wrists and that she forced her way into the room. She said the man fled after she intervened. The woman reported the assault to police and went to a hospital, according to police and university statements. The fraternity chapter said a sober monitor alerted members and that several members, including its risk manager, went to assist the woman.
