Nick Young Revisits 2016 Dispute With D’Angelo Russell

Published 10 October 2026

Nick Young said he remains angry with former Los Angeles Lakers teammate D’Angelo Russell over a 2016 recording controversy, recounting that arena security stopped him from confronting Russell and that friends confronted Russell’s brother while the player was on the court. The account came during Young’s October 7 appearance on Club Shay Shay and has not been independently confirmed. Young said he went to the arena after the recording surfaced, intending to confront Russell, but security turned him away. He recalled that he arrived with friends and believed he needed to respond to avoid appearing weak. Young said his friends later confronted Russell’s brother in the Lakers’ family lounge while Russell was playing. The reports provide no independent account from the brother or confirmation of what occurred. The recording captured Young discussing an encounter with another woman while he was engaged to Iggy Azalea. Russell, then a Lakers rookie, publicly apologized for recording the conversation. He said he regretted the harm caused but did not know how the footage became public and denied leaking it.
