D’Angelo Russell Signs With Shanghai Sharks

D’Angelo Russell has signed with the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association, the league announced on social media Wednesday, bringing the 30-year-old guard to a team in China after the Memphis Grizzlies waived him earlier this month. The reported signing follows 11 seasons in the NBA, though it does not establish whether Russell’s move is permanent or rule out a future return to the league. Russell was selected second overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2015 NBA Draft. Across his NBA career, he also played for the Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves and Dallas Mavericks. He was named an All-Star in 2019 while with Brooklyn. His most recent NBA season was with Dallas, where he appeared in 26 games, including three starts, and averaged 10.2 points, 2.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game, according to the reported statistics. The Mavericks traded him in February as part of a three-team deal, and he did not play for the Washington Wizards before being moved to Memphis in July in a separate, multi-team trade. Memphis waived Russell on September 25, according to reports. He did not appear in a game for the Grizzlies.
