Jaylen Brown declined to identify a team leader at Philadelphia 76ers media day, responding “Next question” when asked who would be the team’s alpha after his offseason move from Boston. The Sixers have added Brown and LeBron James to a roster that includes Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, leaving their on-court roles and leadership hierarchy unresolved as the season approaches. Brown’s brief response avoided publicly elevating one player over the others. The group includes established stars with distinct responsibilities and track records, but the media-day exchange did not clarify how Philadelphia will distribute scoring, touches or leadership once games begin. That hierarchy is expected to take shape through the team’s play and shared experience during the 2026-27 season. Brown spent the first 10 seasons of his NBA career with the Boston Celtics before being traded to Philadelphia this offseason. The move ended his partnership with Jayson Tatum, with whom he helped Boston win the 2024 NBA championship. Tatum said at Boston’s media day that he was grateful for their years together and what Brown had meant to the team and city. The trade leaves Tatum as Boston’s central leader.
