News helicopter crashes in Los Angeles, killing one on ground

A news helicopter crashed in the Chatsworth neighborhood of Los Angeles on Tuesday night, killing at least one person on the ground, authorities said. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported the crash occurred just before 7 p.m. on the 9100 block of North Mason Avenue, between two commercial buildings. The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation into the incident. The crash happened as multiple news helicopters were in the area covering an earlier, fatal collision involving a Metro bus. That bus crash, which occurred approximately two hours prior, killed at least two people when an SUV struck the side of the bus. The helicopter went down near the scene of that earlier emergency. LAFD public information officer Brandon Silverman confirmed that at least one person on the ground at the time of the helicopter crash has died. Firefighters were searching the wreckage to determine how many people were on board the aircraft. Authorities have not confirmed the total number of victims or the identities of those involved. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the crashed aircraft was not an LAPD Air Support Division helicopter.
