Amazon Suspends Cargo Carrier After Fatal Miami Runway Crash

Amazon has suspended its operations with cargo carrier 21 Air following a fatal runway crash at Miami International Airport that killed five people. The decision was announced on Sunday, September 13, after Amazon reviewed the circumstances of the September 6 incident involving Flight 7598, a Boeing 767-300 freighter. The crash occurred when the aircraft, operating as an Amazon Air flight, overran the runway and struck two vehicles on the ground. All five fatalities were occupants of those vehicles. The two pilots on board were hospitalized and later released. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigation is ongoing. Preliminary findings from the cockpit voice and flight data recorders indicate the plane touched down at high speed. A go-around was called approximately 15 seconds after touchdown, but the aircraft's speed brakes and thrust reversers were not deployed. The NTSB has not determined why these systems were not used. Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel stated the company decided to pause operations with 21 Air after supporting the investigation and reviewing surrounding circumstances.
