Crane collapses onto car in Miami, injuring four

A construction crane collapsed onto a moving vehicle in Miami's Brickell neighborhood on Monday morning, causing a fire and sending four people to the hospital with minor injuries, officials said. The incident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. at the intersection of Southeast 12th Street and Brickell Bay Drive, forcing the closure of a major thoroughfare in the financial district. Miami Fire Chief Robert Hevia described the scene as "impressive" during a press conference, expressing gratitude that no one was killed. He said a female motorist driving alongside the construction site saw the crane starting to fall, put her car in reverse, and escaped as the vehicle caught fire. The falling apparatus, identified as a piling rig, also struck a storage container, trapping two construction workers inside, and flattened two unoccupied parked cars. The four injured individuals were the driver of the vehicle, the two trapped construction workers, and the crane operator, who jumped to safety as the machine tipped over. All were transported to local trauma centers with minor injuries. Officials have not released their identities.
