New Zealand retains Bledisloe Cup with 50-19 win

Published 10 October 2026

New Zealand retained the Bledisloe Cup by defeating Australia 50-19 in the first Test at Eden Park on October 10, overturning a three-point halftime deficit with a decisive second-half surge. The Wallabies led 17-14 at the break after a back-and-forth opening period. New Zealand then scored 26 consecutive points, taking control through tries from Cam Roigard, captain Codie Taylor and Leroy Carter. Will Jordan added a late try after Australia had crossed through Josh Nasser, completing the 31-point victory. The win extended New Zealand’s hold on the Cup for another season. Australia had needed to deny the All Blacks victory across the two Tests to keep its chance of reclaiming the trophy alive; after the Eden Park result, the Cup remained with New Zealand ahead of the scheduled rematch in Sydney the following week. Australia opened the scoring when Tom Wright finished a move created by Ben Donaldson. New Zealand responded with two tries, both following breaks by flyhalf Damian McKenzie, and led 14-7. McKenzie added a penalty, but Australia struck just before halftime: Donaldson broke through and set up captain Harry Wilson to score under the posts.
