Rugby World Cup 2027 one year away as ticket sales rise

Published 1 October 2026

The 2027 Men’s Rugby World Cup is one year away, with World Rugby saying 1.3 million tickets have been secured by fans in 164 countries and announcing that the remaining available tickets would go on sale at noon AEST on October 1, 2026. The tournament is scheduled to run from October 1 to November 13, 2027, across seven Australian host cities, with the final in Sydney. The ticket figure was reported by World Rugby as more than half of the available allocation. It is an organiser tally, and the supplied information does not include independently verified sales records or the total number of tickets available. A report published on September 30 gave a separate presale figure of more than 750,000 tickets secured by fans from 135 countries. The two totals were reported on different dates and may cover different sales phases, so they cannot be directly compared. The tournament will be the first Rugby World Cup to feature 24 teams and a round of 16. Teams are divided into six pools of four, with the top two in each pool and the four best third-place finishers advancing.
