New Trailer Drops for Survival Thriller Whalefall
20th Century Studios has released a third trailer for Whalefall, a survival thriller in which a young scuba diver is swallowed by a sperm whale and must escape within one hour of oxygen. The film, directed by Brian Duffield and adapted from Daniel Kraus's 2023 novel of the same name, is scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 16, 2026. The story follows Jay Gardiner, played by Austin Abrams, who goes diving off the central coast of California in search of his late father's remains after his death. During the dive he is swallowed by a massive sperm whale, and the trailer shows him fighting through the animal's stomach chambers as his air supply dwindles. A squid is also trapped inside the whale and poses an additional threat. The voice of his father, played by Josh Brolin, narrates moments of the trailer with lines of guidance, including the phrase survivors survive, as Jay improvises tools from his surroundings, turning an old shark tooth into a knife and a torn wetsuit into a glove. The cast also includes Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy and Emily Rudd.
