Netflix Renews A Different World for Season 2
Netflix has renewed A Different World for a second season, announcing the decision eight days after the revival premiered on September 24. The next season will follow Deborah Wayne and her classmates into their sophomore year at Hillman College. The series follows Deborah, played by Maleah Joi Moon, the daughter of original characters Whitley Gilbert and Dwayne Wayne, as she begins college. Jasmine Guy and Kadeem Hardison reprise their roles as Whitley and Dwayne. The renewal continues the story of a new generation of students at Hillman, the historically Black college at the center of the original sitcom and its revival. Netflix has not announced a release date or provided additional details about the upcoming episodes. The announced premise places Deborah and her classmates back on campus after their summers, facing the consequences of past decisions, uncertain futures, new relationships and questions about their purpose. According to Netflix internal data, the revival drew 4.2 million worldwide views and accumulated 23 million hours watched during its first four days. Those figures were provided by the company; no independent audience measurement was included in the reports.
