Netflix Plans Broad Theatrical Release for KPop Demon Hunters 2

Published 1 October 2026

Netflix plans to give KPop Demon Hunters 2 a broad theatrical release when the animated sequel arrives, expected in 2029, co-CEO Ted Sarandos said September 30 at Bloomberg Screentime. The announcement marks a larger cinema rollout for the sequel than the original film received, though Netflix has not specified the release dates, length of the theatrical run or whether it will precede streaming on the service. Sarandos described the planned release as “very broad” while discussing Netflix’s approach to theatrical distribution. He said the company sees potential for wide releases with films aimed at large family audiences, while taking a different approach to titles with narrower audiences. The sequel’s release plan is reported as a Netflix expectation, not a final schedule; no exact date in 2029 has been announced. The plan follows the strong performance of the first KPop Demon Hunters, which Netflix said drew 325.1 million views in its first 90 days on the platform. The film’s singalong edition also played in theaters.
