Nepal-Tibet Floods Kill 586, Over 2,400 Missing

The death toll from catastrophic flash floods that struck the Nepal-Tibet border region has climbed to 586, with more than 2,400 people still missing as rescue teams race against time amid the threat of further flooding from unstable barrier lakes. The disaster, triggered by a glacier collapse on August 26, has devastated Himalayan river systems, destroying infrastructure and leaving communities isolated. Nepal's disaster authorities reported 579 deaths across eight districts, while seven fatalities were confirmed in Tibet. The number of missing persons in Nepal nearly doubled to 1,924 from an earlier figure of 977, with an additional 554 people unaccounted for in Tibet's Gyirong County.
