NEAR Intents Says It Blocked $50M in Bitget-Linked Transfers

Published 29 September 2026

NEAR Intents said its SHIELD system blocked more than $50 million in attempted cross-chain transfers it linked to the September 24 theft from cryptocurrency exchange Bitget, while about $503,000 was frozen during transactions and roughly $166,000 in suspected stolen funds passed through, according to the protocol’s general manager, Alex Shevchenko. Shevchenko said the transfers rejected by SHIELD later moved toward other service providers. The figures describe activity detected by NEAR Intents and are based on Shevchenko’s account; the amount ultimately recovered from the attempted transfers has not been established in the reported information. Bitget has said approximately $387.5 million reached attacker-controlled addresses in the breach. The exchange revised an initial estimate of $351.6 million after tracing additional assets. That total reflects funds sent to attacker addresses, not the amount associated with the NEAR Intents activity. NEAR Intents said it would forgo Bitget’s bounty for freezing or recovering funds and return the assets it froze through an appropriate legal process.
