Mother arrested after infant found dead in South LA dumpster
A 19-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after an infant girl was found in a dumpster in South Los Angeles and pronounced dead at a hospital, police said. The Los Angeles Police Department said the death is being investigated as a homicide and the investigation remains ongoing. The infant was found late Monday, September 28, near Alba Street, outside the Pueblo Del Rio housing project, according to police. Firefighters took her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police said the child had been placed in the dumpster within the previous 24 hours. Reports put her age at roughly four to six months, but her precise age has not been established in the information available. Police identified the arrested woman as Takiyah Babers, 19, the infant’s mother. She was arrested on suspicion of murder, and reports said her bail was set at $2 million. An arrest on suspicion does not establish guilt, and the available reports do not say whether formal charges have been filed. Police have not described the evidence supporting the suspicion.
