Mora Says Summers No Longer With Colorado State

Published 4 October 2026

Colorado State coach Jim Mora said defensive coordinator Tyson Summers was removed as the team’s playcaller during the Rams’ 56-26 loss to Oregon State on Saturday and was no longer with the program. Mora said Summers chose to leave the field, while other reporting described the change as a dismissal; the precise circumstances remain unclear. Mora confirmed after the game that Summers had been relieved of playcalling duties. He said Kenny McClendon, the team’s co-defensive coordinator, would become the primary defensive playcaller. One account also said McClendon would take over as defensive coordinator, but the reports did not establish whether that title change was formally made. The change occurred while the game was in progress. Reports said Summers was replaced on the sideline during the first quarter, though accounts differed on the exact timing. A sideline reporter was cited as saying McClendon had been calling plays from about midway through the quarter. The Rams had conceded an early Oregon State scoring drive, but Colorado State briefly tied the game at 14-14 after a kickoff return and a defensive fumble recovery.
