Metro 2039 Release Date Set for February 4, 2027

Published 3 September 2026

Developer 4A Games has confirmed a February 4, 2027, release date for Metro 2039, the next installment in its post-apocalyptic first-person shooter series. The announcement was made during Sony's State of Play showcase on September 3, 2026, where a new gameplay trailer was also unveiled, featuring footage captured on the PlayStation 5 Pro. The trailer introduces the game's new protagonist, The Stranger, a former Spartan warrior with a dark past. The footage shows him exploring the ruined surface of Moscow, navigating dilapidated buildings and engaging in combat with well-armed enemies. His quest is to locate a Novoreich fortress situated within a nearby dam. The gameplay emphasizes survival elements, requiring players to manage radiation levels and swap anti-radiation filters while facing threats from both the environment and hostile forces. A key focus of the presentation was the game's technical performance on the PS5 Pro. The trailer showcased the title running in a performance mode at 60 frames per second with ray tracing enabled. 4A Games stated this level of visual fidelity is a result of optimizing its in-house 4A Engine, which also powered previous Metro titles.
