Matchbox: The Movie Begins Streaming on Apple TV
Matchbox: The Movie became available to Apple TV subscribers on October 9, bringing John Cena and Jessica Biel’s action-comedy adaptation of Mattel’s toy line to the streaming service. The film had its New York world premiere on October 5, four days before its streaming debut. Cena stars as Sean Walker, an undercover CIA agent who returns to his hometown and reconnects with childhood friends. The reunion draws the group into an international pursuit, where they must work together to prevent a threat and save the world. Biel plays Aimee, with Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris and Arturo Castro among the other cast members. Corey Stoll, Danai Gurira and Bill Camp also appear. Directed by Sam Hargrave and written by David Coggeshall, the film takes its premise from Mattel’s Matchbox cars but is not a racing story. Instead, the toys’ car-focused identity serves as the basis for a globe-spanning action adventure built around espionage and friendship. The story follows Sean and his old friends as they navigate a dangerous mission after his return. The film’s release marks another screen adaptation of a Mattel property.
