Martin Herlihy Reportedly Departs Saturday Night Live

Martin Herlihy, a writer and performer known for his work with the comedy group Please Don’t Destroy, is reportedly leaving Saturday Night Live. His departure comes ahead of the show's 52nd season, which is scheduled to premiere on September 26. Herlihy joined the iconic sketch comedy series in 2021 as part of Please Don’t Destroy, a trio that quickly became known for their digital shorts. He spent five seasons with the program, primarily contributing as a writer while also appearing in sketches and digital shorts. Herlihy's exit follows that of cast member Chloe Fineman, who announced her departure in July. The sketch comedy series has seen several cast and writer changes in recent years, particularly after its 50th season concluded in May 2025. Other members of Please Don’t Destroy have also seen shifts in their roles; John Higgins departed the show ahead of Season 51, while Ben Marshall was promoted to the main cast during that same season. During his tenure, Herlihy was a key figure in the Please Don’t Destroy digital shorts, which often featured celebrity guests. The trio also wrote and starred in the 2023 Peacock film "Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain.
