Manganiello says memoir is about illness, not marriage

Published 14 October 2026

Joe Manganiello said his upcoming memoir, Bloodlines, is about his years-long health crisis and recovery, not his marriage to Sofía Vergara, responding to a social media post that appeared to criticize him. He urged people to read the book before judging the exchange during an interview broadcast October 12 on CBS Mornings. The post was shared by Manolo González Vergara, Vergara’s son, and described how a narcissist might treat others without naming Manganiello. Vergara shared or endorsed the post on her Instagram Story. Asked about it by Gayle King, Manganiello said the memoir focuses on the suffering he experienced, as well as survival and hope, and that he did not want to continue the discussion on social media. Manganiello has said that his health problems lasted seven years and included emergency surgery to remove part of his intestine. He has not received a conclusive diagnosis, according to his account. In the interview, he credited Vergara with choosing an emergency-care option while he was unconscious, saying it bought him time, though it did not resolve the illness. His remarks about his medical history and Vergara’s role are his account of events.
