Man seriously injured in attack at Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Published 10 October 2026

A man was seriously injured after a tiger attacked him inside an enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, South Yorkshire Police said, prompting the evacuation and closure of the park. Police said they received reports at 1:35 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, that the man had entered the enclosure. The force said the tiger attacked him, causing serious injury. It did not provide further information about his condition and said officers were trying to contact his family. Yorkshire Ambulance Service said it sent two land ambulances, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and a doctor to the scene. The park said its emergency response procedures were activated and that it was working with authorities to establish what happened. It was due to remain closed on Sunday, October 11. Police said the tiger remained in the enclosure and that there was no wider risk to the public. The park was evacuated as emergency services attended and police investigated. The park said the safety and wellbeing of visitors, staff and animals were its priority. Accounts of how the man entered the enclosure differ or remain unconfirmed. Some witnesses said he jumped in, while others said he may have fallen.
