Man dies after tiger attack at Yorkshire Wildlife Park
A man died after a tiger attacked him inside an enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster on Saturday, South Yorkshire Police said. The incident prompted the evacuation and temporary closure of the park. Police said they received reports at 1:35 p.m. on October 10 that a man had entered the enclosure. The tiger attacked him, causing serious injuries, and he later died at the scene, police said. The available information does not establish how he entered. Yorkshire Wildlife Park said it activated its emergency procedures and was working with authorities to establish what happened. It announced that the park would remain closed through Sunday, October 11. Police officers remained at the scene to make enquiries. Yorkshire Ambulance Service said two land ambulances, an air ambulance and a doctor attended. Visitors were evacuated while emergency services responded. Police said the tiger remained inside its enclosure after the attack and there was no wider risk to the public. Some witnesses reported hearing shots, and some accounts speculated that gas canisters or tranquiliser darts had been used.
