Makinde Says He Could Reset Nigeria in Four Years

Seyi Makinde, Oyo State governor and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), said he could reset Nigeria within four years if elected president in 2027, outlining proposed changes to security, education, the economy and the country’s sociopolitical environment. Makinde made the pledge on Monday, September 28, at an APM North Central town hall meeting in Lafia, Nasarawa State. He said a future administration would pursue a new security architecture, a different path for education and economic reform using data, science and logic. He also said the programme could be completed within one presidential term. The pledge is a campaign proposal; Makinde is not yet president, and the four-year timetable depends on his election. He said the 2027 result would be decided by Nigerians rather than pollsters, political calculations or the number of wealthy supporters a party could draw on. At the meeting, Makinde criticized federal planning for security, saying he had looked through the 2026 budget and did not find a provision for additional army divisions.
