Louisville rallies past Florida State after 14-0 deficit
Louisville rallied from a 14-0 deficit to defeat Florida State 44-20 on October 9, extending the Seminoles’ struggles away from home and intensifying scrutiny of coach Mike Norvell after another substantial lead slipped away. Florida State opened strongly but could not convert a chance to extend its advantage near the Louisville goal line. After the Seminoles were stopped on fourth down near the Cardinals’ 3-yard line, Louisville running back Isaac Brown scored a 97-yard touchdown on the next play. Louisville went on to score 35 unanswered points during its comeback. The Cardinals finished with 397 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns. Brown ran for 235 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries, including the 97-yard score and a 68-yard run. Louisville had 537 total yards, while Florida State finished with 362. Norvell said after the game that Florida State had not shown the detail, discipline and mental toughness needed to win on the road, adding that responsibility began with him. He also said coaches and players needed to take ownership of the performance. The coach’s comments followed a defeat that extended Florida State’s true-road losing streak to 11 games.
