Kroger plans to cut 3,000 corporate roles over three years
Kroger plans to eliminate about 3,000 corporate roles over three years, a reduction equal to roughly 37% of its approximately 8,200 corporate employees, according to an internal memo from Chief Executive Greg Foran. The company said the cuts are intended to simplify operations and redirect resources toward lower prices, store experience and frontline employees. The reductions will span corporate functions, the memo said. Kroger expects to begin sharing details about affected roles in the coming months. It has not announced which positions will be eliminated or provided a breakdown by location. The plan concerns corporate roles, not store and warehouse jobs. Foran told employees that Kroger has more organizational layers and overhead than it needs, and said reducing duplicative work could help the company make decisions faster. The memo also cited technology’s evolution, including artificial intelligence, as part of the rationale for changing workflows. It did not specify how many roles, if any, would be replaced by AI, or identify particular systems or vendors.
