Kohli puts India’s World Cup title ahead of personal goal

Virat Kohli says he hopes to deliver a match-winning innings in the 2027 Cricket World Cup final, but India winning the trophy would matter more to him than personal achievement. The India batter has described the tournament as his last World Cup for the country, though his comments do not establish whether he will be selected or play in the final. His ideal scenario, he said, would be to finish a chase with a decisive innings in the final. He added that he would be just as happy if India won the title without his individual performance determining the result. Kohli’s stated ambition is a personal goal, not a prediction that India will reach the final or that he will take part. He has played in two ODI World Cup finals: India won the 2011 tournament, while Australia beat the team in 2023. Kohli also recalled the 2023 final, in which he scored 54 before Pat Cummins dismissed him.
