Kerala Congress removes official over post targeting chief justice

Published 12 October 2026

The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee removed the official responsible for a deleted post targeting Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, and said it would examine how the message was published. KPCC president Sunny Joseph said the post appeared on the party’s official Congress Keralam account on X without the knowledge, consent or consultation of state party leadership. He said the person responsible had been removed from the position and that the committee would look into the circumstances surrounding the post. The official’s identity was not reported. Joseph said the post did not represent the leadership’s position and that Congress had no disagreement with the impartiality of the judiciary. The post was deleted after drawing criticism. Reporting reproducing its text said it called on Surya Kant to resign if law and order was outside his domain. The post followed remarks attributed to the Chief Justice about law and order, according to one account. Another report said it appeared to respond to his declining a meeting request from Rahul Gandhi and other INDIA bloc leaders. The supplied accounts do not detail the party’s examination or its findings.
