Kelsey Mitchell weighs future as Fever free agent

Published 4 October 2026

Kelsey Mitchell has not decided whether she will return to the Indiana Fever, saying she needs to weigh what is best for herself and her family as she enters free agency after the team’s first-round playoff loss to the Las Vegas Aces. The longtime Fever guard said it was too early to determine her next step. Mitchell, who has spent all nine seasons of her WNBA career in Indiana, said at the team’s season-ending press conference that she had to be “selfish” in considering her future. She described the choice as difficult, in part because she has played for only one team and has built strong ties to the organization. She also said she would not be in her current position without Indiana. Fever general manager Amber Cox said the organization hopes Mitchell will remain in Indiana for the rest of her career, while recognizing that she has earned the opportunity to consider other teams. No contract decision has been announced. Mitchell is coming off a high-scoring regular season, averaging 24.7 points per game. She shot 50.9% from the field and 45.0% from three-point range, according to figures cited in reports on the season. Her field-goal percentage fell to 32.7% in the playoffs.
