Judge Keeps CNN, MS NOW and Politico’s White House Access

Published 14 October 2026

A federal judge on Tuesday issued a preliminary injunction barring the Trump administration from enforcing its decision to revoke White House press credentials held by reporters for CNN, MS NOW and Politico while the outlets’ lawsuit proceeds. U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly found that the three organizations are likely to succeed on claims that the credential revocations violated their due-process and First Amendment rights. The injunction preserves the reporters’ access to the White House as the case continues, but it does not decide the lawsuit’s ultimate merits. Kelly’s order followed an earlier temporary measure that restored the reporters’ hard-pass credentials while he considered the case. That order was due to expire Tuesday; the new preliminary injunction continues the protection during the litigation. The dispute began after President Donald Trump announced on September 18 that he was barring the outlets, criticizing their coverage as negative or false. The outlets sued after their reporters’ credentials were revoked. They have said the White House acted without notice or process because it objected to their reporting.
