Jos Buttler has hamstring surgery, faces England absences
Jos Buttler has undergone surgery for a left hamstring injury sustained during England’s second one-day international against Sri Lanka, and is expected to miss upcoming England fixtures. The England wicketkeeper-batter said the operation was successful in a social media post from hospital, adding that he was on the road to recovery. Buttler sustained the injury while batting at Headingley on September 24. He briefly left the field and returned before his innings ended. The injury came during a strong stretch of form: he scored 466 runs across his next nine white-ball internationals after a difficult T20 World Cup campaign. Reports say Buttler will miss England’s upcoming tri-series in Pakistan, with the squad due to depart the week after his surgery. He is also reported to be unavailable for selection on England’s white-ball tour of Australia, scheduled for November 13 to December 2. The selectors were scheduled to announce the squads on Tuesday, October 13. Buttler’s availability for the 2027 SA20 season is uncertain and depends on his recovery. He was signed by Durban’s Super Giants ahead of the tournament, which is due to begin on January 17, 2027.
