Joburg Super Kings sign Pollard for R1.5 million
Joburg Super Kings signed Kieron Pollard for R1.5 million at the SA20 auction on October 7, securing the West Indies allrounder for the league’s fifth season after his release by MI Cape Town. The league’s auction announcement said the franchise bid immediately and no rival bid followed. Pollard’s signing reunites him with the Super Kings name after years with Mumbai Indians and its affiliated teams, but marks his first appearance for a Chennai Super Kings-affiliated side, according to reports. He played for MI Cape Town in the SA20 before entering the auction. The 2027 season is scheduled to begin on January 17, when defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape are set to host Pretoria Capitals at St George’s Park. Joburg Super Kings also made the auction’s reported highest-priced purchase, signing 18-year-old South African prospect Jason Rowles. One report put the price at US$174,248 and said the bid was contested by MI Cape Town. Another account reported bidding reached R2.9 million, without establishing whether that was the final amount.
