Jayne James banned after car entered nursery playground

Jayne James, 63, has been sentenced to four months in prison, suspended for 12 months, and banned from driving for two years after pleading guilty to dangerous driving in a collision that sent her car through a nursery playground fence in Ellesmere Port and injured three children. The collision happened on June 16 at Sunny Days Nursery on Vale Road, where 22 children aged between two and three were in the playground. James’s car crossed a wooden fence separating the car park from the play area and struck a brick wall. A two-year-old boy was trapped between the car’s front wheel and the wall. A nursery staff member freed the boy and called emergency services. He suffered a friction burn to his torso, according to police accounts reported in court. Two other children were also injured. All three were taken to hospital and later discharged. Cheshire Police said they had made a full physical recovery. James, who is from Great Sutton, appeared at Chester Magistrates’ Court, where she received the sentence and driving ban. Reports differ on the date she entered her guilty plea: accounts place it in August, with one specifying August 26, while another gives September 17.
