India women refuse Asia Cup trophy from ACC chief Naqvi

India's women's cricket team refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council president Mohsin Naqvi after winning the 2026 T20 Asia Cup final in Dubai on Sunday, repeating a protest made by the men's team the previous year. The team defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium to claim a record-extending eighth women's Asia Cup title. During the official presentation ceremony, which began more than 40 minutes after the match concluded, the Indian players were absent from the stage. Sri Lankan players received their runners-up medals, and captain Chamari Athapaththu was presented with a cheque by Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and Pakistan's interior minister. No trophy presentation for the Indian team took place. Head coach Amol Mazumdar confirmed the team was acting on the Board of Control for Cricket in India's official position. "That stand has been taken by the BCCI, and we stand by it. For us, this tournament is over. We are the champions, and that's good enough," Mazumdar told reporters in the post-match press conference. He added that the team's focus had shifted to the upcoming Asian Games.
