ICE Agent Shoots Man During Marble Hill Operation
A federal immigration agent shot and wounded a 28-year-old man during an enforcement operation in Marble Hill on Thursday, while a five-year-old child in the vehicle was unharmed, New York City officials said. Mayor Zohran Mamdani condemned the shooting and called for Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in the city to end, renewing his demand that the agency be abolished. New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said preliminary evidence indicated that at least one ICE agent fired seven rounds, striking the driver in the neck. Surveillance footage reviewed by police did not capture the shooting itself. The circumstances that led the agent to fire have not been established in the available accounts. The Department of Homeland Security said ICE was conducting a targeted operation to arrest a Dominican national with a prior grand-larceny conviction and other prior arrests. The department acknowledged that an agent discharged a weapon and that the man was injured. DHS also alleged that he had ties to the Trinitarios gang, but that claim was not independently verified in the reporting. The agency did not explain what prompted the gunfire.
