Guilfoyle Steps Down After White House Resignation Request
The White House asked Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign as U.S. ambassador to Greece, and Guilfoyle later announced she was stepping down, while denying allegations of misconduct that prompted scrutiny of her tenure. White House press secretary Katie Zacharia announced the request at a briefing on October 13, a day after President Donald Trump said he was considering whether to remove Guilfoyle. Zacharia said the administration wished her well. Guilfoyle subsequently said in a post on X that her time as ambassador was coming to an end and called the allegations against her false. She said she intended to defend her reputation. The central allegations include a reported request for $100,000 from donor Eric Deters. The Wall Street Journal reported that Guilfoyle asked Deters to pay credit-card debt shortly before her 2025 Senate confirmation hearing. Deters told the newspaper he refused. Guilfoyle’s lawyer disputed the authenticity of the messages cited in that reporting and denied that she sought money in exchange for access to administration officials.
